Springs can be classified into the following six categories:

1. The torsion spring is a spring that can withstand torsional deformation. Its working part is also wound in a spiral shape. The end structure of the torsion spring is processed into various shapes of torsion arms instead of hooks. The torsion spring utilizes the principle of leverage. By twisting or rotating the elastic material with softness and high toughness, it acquires a great deal of mechanical energy.

2. The extension spring is a helical spring that can withstand axial tension. When not under load, the coils of the extension spring are generally tightly adjacent without any gap.

3. The compression spring is a helical spring that withstands axial pressure. The cross-sectional shape of the material it uses is mostly circular. There are also those made by rolling rectangular or multiple strands of steel. The springs are generally of equal pitch. The shapes of compression springs include: cylindrical, conical, middle convex, middle concave, and a few non-circular ones. There will be a certain gap between each coil of the compression spring. When subjected to external loads, the spring contracts and deforms, storing the deformation energy.

4. Progressive spring: This type of spring features a design with inconsistent thickness and density. The advantage is that when the pressure is not high, it can absorb the bumps in the road through the parts with lower elastic coefficients, ensuring a comfortable ride. When the pressure increases to a certain extent, the thicker parts of the spring take on the role of supporting the vehicle body. However, the disadvantage of this spring is that the control feeling is not direct and the accuracy is poor.

5. Linear Spring: The thickness and density of the linear spring remain constant from top to bottom, and its elastic coefficient is a fixed value. This design of the spring enables the vehicle to achieve a more stable and linear dynamic response, facilitating better control by the driver. It is mainly used in performance-oriented modified vehicles and competitive vehicles. However, the downside is that the comfort is affected.

6. Short Springs Compared to the original factory springs, the short springs are shorter and more robust. Installing short springs can effectively lower the vehicle's center of gravity, reduce the side-slip during cornering, make the cornering more stable and smooth, and enhance the vehicle's cornering control. However, the damping setting of the original shock absorbers is more towards comfort, so the combination of short springs and original shock absorbers is not very stable. It cannot effectively suppress the rebound and compression of the short springs. When driving on bumpy roads, there will be an uncomfortable jolting sensation. In the long run, the lifespan of the shock absorber will be greatly shortened, and there may also be oil leakage. Of course, these situations are relative. During daily driving, there will not be such severe damage. And try not to drive aggressively, because the original shock absorber cannot withstand high-load pressure.
